Robert at Rootless in Place made mention of a new stove that he is trying out on his current micro-tour, so I had to take a closer look.
The Biolitestove burns wood, but also has a fan that increases the heat output to the point of gasification. For the stove, all that means is that it burns more cleanly, but I have an interest in wood gasification from how the practice was developed in Europe for vehicles during WWII since petrol was not readily available.
But what really caught my attention was the fact that the battery that powers the fan is recharged by the heat energy generated from the very fire that it is fanning. In fact, so much energy is generated that they installed a USB port for charging external devices.
I already have two stoves that serve me well, so I’m not about to plunk down $129 for this one, but I do have to admit that I find the whole thing rather appealing. There is even a grill attachment.
I’m eager to read how Robert likes it.
