Driving across the Market Street Bridge this morning, I spied a “senior” rider on one of those 10 speeds with the brake levers I wrote about. She was in “be seen” mode, with a whippit flag and rear flasher. What stuck out to me, was how she was laboring to pedal, with a very low cadence. This on a busy four lane bridge with no effective berm.
First thought: too high a gear. But as soon as I passed I saw it. Her hips were moving a good four inches up and down with each rotation. The bike is way too big – the seat is way too high.
So…if anyone knows this lady, help her out. ‘just before 8:00, crossing the bridge, headed to Lemoyne.
