Pedalling Along

Harrisburg Critical Mass

June 30, 2008 · 3 Comments

I was a little dubious when I saw the announcement for this.  First because it was scheduled during Friday Happy Hour, which can get pretty rowdy along North 2nd Street.  Second because of the reputation CM has developed in other cities where its more “anti-car” and “anti-traffic laws” than it is pro-bike.

But from the description, it was a well managed event that will hopefully raise bicycle awareness and advocacy in a city that is seeing ever increasing bicycle traffic.  Here is a link to pics and dialog.

I was worried that it was going to be an excuse to violate traffic laws, like what you hear about in bigger cities.

It appears to have been very well-mannered. I am planning to participate in July’s mass.

I put it on my calendar. That doesn’t mean I’ll be there because I think we’re planning a vacation around that time, but you never know…

I was there. It was a great group, very friendly and all were out just to enjoy what was a relaxed and scenic ride around the city and promote cycling… We even got a little lesson on biking traffic laws from a local bike guru names Ross.

Looking forward to next month…and hope to see you all there!
